  1. There is this radio station website:
    http://www.jazzandblues.org/index.aspx

I am trying to capture the live audio stream. I tried StreamTransport but could not get that to work. I tried Orbit, and that only worked on the 10 second advert before the live stream. Then Orbit downloaded a huge file (like 1GB) that didn't seem related to the streaming audio.

I was wondering if someone could go to the above website ( X out the pledge drive screen that pops up) and click on "Listen Live", and you can listen to the live stream, then see if there is a (preferably free) software that will capture the live stream into a file. I believe they are using Adobe Flash flv.

Also, thanks for helping me with my previous request ( capture <pbs.org> Frontline TV show using StreamTransport). That worked perfectly.

  2. It's a regular http stream you can download with your browser http://208.80.54.71/KKGOFM1AAC
Rename to .flv and extract the aac stream with FLV_Extract. You could also use WebVideoCap to record while listening.

  3. I would like to know how you got that exact complete url (http://208.80.54.71/KKGOFM1AAC)
because when I play the music stream, the window only shows: 208.80.54.71...
(See second screenshot, pink circled numbers).
At any rate, to keep using things that I am familiar with, I just put that above url in StreamHijacker (See third screenshot) and it seem to download the stream (click "Hijack It"). For some reason the file was shown as mp3, but Gspot showed the file as flv. I renamed the file, (just to be clear) and played with vlc.
I also was able to save the stream from Firefox browser ( see first screenshot).

  4. Anyone? I am still trying to find out how "K' (see above post by "K") was able to get the exact complete URL:
    http://208.80.54.71/KKGOFM1AAC
from the above radio station website.
With the correct exact url, I was able to capture the live stream using StreamHijacker. (Thank you.)
Using Orbit or the Firefox browser, I can see some numbers/letters similar (but not the exact url in one piece).
I think the ability to get the exact url would help me capture streams from other radio stations in the future.

    Hi
I don't know how k. went about this.
But here is a method that I can use:-

When the player opens up in Firefox, click on 'help' in bottom left hand corner.
This opens a new tab/window in the browser at URL:-
    HTML Code:
    http://support.streamtheworld.com/index.php?callsign=KKGOFM1AAC&flashversion=LNX%252010%252C1%252C102%252C64
This tells you that it's a 'streamtheworld' setup and the callsign is KKGOFM1AAC.

From this information you construct this link:-
    HTML Code:
    http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/KKGOFM1AAC.pls
It's doesn't look exactly like k's link, but it does the same job.

From there I can paste this pls link into VLC media player.
    Then View > Advanced Controls
    This shows a red button.
Hit the red button to record the stream.

    VLC records the stream as:-
    Code:
     vlc-record-2010-11-13-21h50m59s-http:__2243.live.streamtheworld.com:80_KKGOFM1AACCMP3-.mp4
That's aac audio wrapped in an mp4 container.

Also, with VLC, you can look in Tools > Media Information
It shows that the actual stream being used is:-

This method is OK for streamtheworld streams.

  6. Thanks for the reply. I will take a look and digest what you said.
By the way, I used the very useful "FLV Extract" (mentioned above) to extract the AAC from the flv container. The extracted AAC plays better than the original flv ( vlc player displays playing time and can seek the selection only when playing the extracted AAC).
The AAC (32kb/s in this case) can easily be converted to 128kb/s mp3 with "Free m4a to mp3 converter".

If you download the PLS file and open it with Notepad you'll see links to the files.

Yes, jagabo, that method works for me also.
    HTML Code:
    wget http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/KKGOFM1AAC.pls
There's so many ways to go about this.
When the pls link is playing in VLC all the links are viewable by using View > Playlist
