  1. Hi,

I recorded some HDV footage on mini-dv tapes while using the Canon XH-A1s.

Sunday I will load the tapes in my new Imac, but to avoid having to rent the camera again, I will borrow a Canon XH-A1 from my friend to capture the video.

The 's' version is the new version of the xh-a1. We shot in 25 frames per second, on 1080P if i remember correctly.

Will we be able to playback the tapes and capture on the older version?

    Thanks!

Details are important. I doubt the XH-A1 or XH-A1s shoots 1080p. Normal mode is 1440x1080i/25.

I'm not sure of the differences in the (s) model.

If you shot native 1440x1080i/25 (50 fields per second), the older camcorder should transfer fine. Even if the new model has a 1440x1080p/25 mode (progressive but more jerky) it should still transfer ok.

The (i) vs. (p) issue will affect editor project settings.

  3. the a1 only shoots 50/60i. the new a1s u.s. version shoots 60i/30p/24p all in a 60i stream. i would assume the pal a1s shoots 25p in a 50i stream. just capture as usual with the a1 and then import into the editor and change the file properties to 25p.
