If the video was not uploaded in "good quality" then you won't get good quality....certainly not HD quality. If this software you are using to download the videos offers an "get the HD version" option on every video that you see on YouTube then it is lying to you.

firefox with the download helper will let you choose which version to download. the files are the same as on the tube.

hech54 is right. Not all youtube videos are in high definition and not all are in great quality. You should have a downloader that lets you pick the top quality option. Personally I use antbar to download youtube videos. It does offer the option to download the highest quality file - it is decided by file size it doesn't say high def but the largest file is the "best quality".

The downloaded file you get is what you see on youtube - unless you downloaded the lowest quality file and not the top quality file. But you won't get better quality than what was uploaded. That is not possible. You are stuck with the quality that is on youtube unless you can track down the original source somehow.

You can convert the files to dvd or another format for another player but remember there will be some quality loss but it should be watchable - just don't expect it to look like a professional commercial released dvd or bluray.

Streamtransport is another option for downloading from youtube - it can also download from rtmpe protected sites fyi.

Then don't use software that reencodes the downloaded video.

StreamTransport as yoda313 suggested. Download Helper has a lower success rate than StreamTransport, but it is somewhat easier to use.

  9. You were already given some good options. Me, I use VideoCacheView and play the highest quality version listed.
