how to open rar file

i want to try the filmmachine....but i cannot down load it as it is rar file what free software do i need to open it

It's a standard archive file, in use for many years.
Either Winrar, or 7zip.

I also 2nd 7zip. There are versions for both 32 & 64 bit and works on Win7.

I have down loaded 7zip and has gone into program files
sorry what do i do now...in the 7zip folder there are a number of files that say application...
then what do i do to open my rar file thank you

Did you install 7-zip? It should only be one "7-zip manager" in the start->programs->7-zip. Then open the rar in 7zip manager.

Or just double click on the rar file and 7zip will open it or right click on the rar file and choose 7-zip->Extract files here....

no i have only down loaded 7zip and as i said..down loaded to the program files...how do i install..what do i click on..there are so many folders in the 7zip

right click on the rar file and you should get this

You install the 7zip program and it should add some items to the right click menu in certain situations.

The RAR set that you have either has a file suffix such as part01, part02, part03, etc,etc.
Or is ends with r01,r02....RAR, Or it could be just RAR if it's only one file.

In the first case, right click on part01 and select extract to...
in the second case right click on the file that ends in RAR and select extract to...

If you can't see these file suffix's go into control panel/folder options and deselect "hide file extensions for known file types"
