Hi
I have several large avi files from my camcorder. I have made these into movies etc and now just want to back up the original file that came from the DV tape which are all over 4.7gb.
How do i do this without lowering the quality. I would prefer to keep the original file intact rather than converting it to a smaller size file?
I just want to back these up so if i ever need them again i don't have to go through the pain of getting the information back of the DV tape and also give me two backups so good if one fails!
Any ideas on best way. Prefer freeware if available

Do you mean as a data disc (not a dvd-video compatible disc , ie won't play on a dvd player) ?
If so, you can split it into 3 x DVD5 discs . You can cut them using direct stream copy mode in vdub for video & audio, and use imgburn to burn. There will be no quality loss and you can re-assemble later without problems in any editing program
Hard drives are better for back up IMO , and less expensive per GB , especially if you factor in jewel cases or disc folders -
Check out the ReadyNAS line of network storage. It has a RAID system that will safeguard from corruption indefinitely. The one I use is the NV+, and it also provides a dizzying array of other features like media player, webserver, etc.
