Hello,
I am looking to covert some tapes from a MiniDv cam and looking at the possibility of a direct capture to something like a portable dvr or something like it that would capture directly to a mp4 or something similar that I could transfer directly to a pc. Anyone have any suggestions. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

you could use a firewire port and capture direct to the computer. if you don't have a firewire port add-in cards are available fairly cheap.

Direct capture to MPeg4 will lower quality. Is that OK? What is the target device? An iPod?
What is your budget for this portable device?Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

edDV: Lower quality is ok. Target device will to be played on pc's, laptops, etc. Budget wise I don't won't to get too crazy, not more that a few hundred would be nice. Thanks.
