  1. Downloaded Movie from internet can't play movie no sound or picture
    Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file. For additional assistance, click Web Help.

    DivX Player Version 10, 2, 1, 13
    Windows Media Player 11

    I can't view or hear the movie, none of the above players work

    VLC should have worked for you. I don't know if thats the latest version or not.

    The one that should play it if vlc can't is mpchc. If that doesn't play it either the file has drm and needs a purchased license to play or the file might be corrupted. If its corrupted you'll have to try to re-download it assuming its still available. If its a purchased file that doesn't play properly you'll need to play it in its authorized player or redownload another copy directly from the source you purchased it from (most places let you redownload files at least once).

  3. Use MediaInfo to check the file. That will at least tell you if it's a valid MP4.
