I've recently changed my OS to windows 7 64 bit and to my dismay, DVD43 does not support that. I was reading that AnyDVD works the same way so I installed and tried it but after loading the programme, I am still prompted in windows media player to change my region to view the disc. Therefore I went to AnyDVD to check on the status and it says the following.

Summary for drive G: (AnyDVD 6.7.1.0)
    HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LP20 1.00 08/03/25 7U01
    Drive (Hardware) Region: 3
    Media is a DVD.
    Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)
Size of first Layer: 1977856 sectors (3863 MBytes)
Total size: 3862043 sectors (7543 MBytes)
Video DVD (or CD) label: AVBD_91533
    Media is CSS protected!
Media is locked to region(s): 2!
    Video Standard: NTSC
    Structural copy protection not found.
    RCE protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
    Removed CSS copy protection!
ERROR processing disc, AnyDVD turned off!

How can I resolve the problem?

Change the default region in anydvd? Under Video DVD->Settings in AnyDVD. And check so software and hardware region code is enabled. And maybe reboot.
