I may have posted in the wrong group. So I am re-posting here.
Hi,
I tried to save a clip as wmv in Movica, but got a message that asfbin
was out of date.
I downloaded the latest version (Windows AsfBin Command line version
1.7.14), copied it to the Movica directory, but now I get a message
calling for more files. I did not get these messages before.
Can anyone advise.
Thanks
A
Ps. OS is Vista, 32bit

1 - If you have successfully used Movica before, check whether you had recently installed any new software which may have interferred.
2 - Which version of Movica are you using? I could not run Movica 6.6 with Vista, but Movica 5.0 did work.
3 - Try to reinstall Movica -
Something I forgot to ask.
When I downloaded the latest ASFBIN file I downloaded the version for Windows that works from the command line. I use Windows. Must I use the command line? Previously, I never used the command line. The other Windows version on the website seems to have bug utilities included.
Have I downloaded the correct version for someone who uses Vista 32 bit?
I can't see any other suitable version on the radioactivepages site.
Thanks -

You don't need to manually install asfbin, and, the command line version may differ from the GUI version. It is installed as part of the package with Movica.
May I suggest to uninstall the current version of Movica and the manually installed asfbin then re install a freshly downloaded Movica 6.6 or 5.0.
If no luck you may consider uploading a sample clip for us to look at. -
Thanks for responding.
I have uninstalled the current version of Movica and have re-installed 0.6.6.1 from SourceForge.
I still have the probelm.
I have tidied up the logfile a little and present it below for comments:
Using converter : C:\Program Files\Sourceforge\Movica\asfbin
With arguments : -i "C:\Users\A\Downloads\Frank S Video _By Don - Something_1.wmv" -o "C:\Users\A\Downloads\Frank S - Something_11.wmv" -start 0 -stop 25.324 -start 156.579 -stop 158.617 -details -y -rkf
Please wait...
Detailed results will follow:

I have had a similar problem with Movica 6.6 and Vista.
1 - Could you try any version of Movica on Windows XP or Windows 7. If that was successful then the culprit is Vista
2 - In Vista:
Could you uninstall Movica 6.6 and try Movica 5.0 version.
Make sure that only one instance of Movica is active [ check the Task Manager ].
3 - There may be a subtle encoding bug in one of your "segments". You check this by trying to save another segment farther a way from the one you want to save e.g start 26 stop 36.
Again it would help if you could upload a sample of your clip [ try mediafire.com ] -
I only have access to Vista.
I could try Movica 5.0. Have you had success with this version under Vista?
I'll try and check for eny encoding bug.
Why would it help to view the clip. It looks alright to me. Just can't save it as wmv?
I like the the site you have listed (mediafire.com).
I'll get back once I have had a chance to try out a few things.
In the meantime if anyone has any further suggestions please let me know.
Best wishes.

Ps. I note at the foot of this reply box a link ('Upload files/Manage attchments'). What type of file is supported - size, etc? -
File no. 01: C:\Users\A\Downloads\Frank S Video _By Don - Something_1.wmv exists
It probably failed because you didn't rename the file

or you can use a free hosting site e.g. mediafire.com, sendspace.com , many others -
Thanks for responding.
I thought that I changed the file name!
But I will retry and change it completely.
Best wishes.

I have tried to save the file using a different name, but the save failed. I then changed the directory for saving and again the save failed. I got the same 'exists' message in both cases. -
No, I could not save other segments ('exists' message persists).
Best wishes.

Ps. I have downloaded (not installed) another asfbin.exe pack. This pack contains asfbin.exe as before (same md5 sigs), but this time also contains asfbinapp.exe (not installed). Do you think that this latter application might help to solve my problem. I assume that it should be copied to the Movica directory. -
Using Movica 6.6.1 on Vista, if you have successfully opened, cut and saved segments from OTHER WMV FILES then the fault lies with your current video file. If you have not done that before, get some other WMV clips and see if it works
I don't think manual installation of asfbin files is necessary, but you could try.
Have you tried Movica version 5? -
Thanks for responding.
I think the problem may lie in the file.
I have tried a basic repair with asftools with success.
The problem with using asftools under Vista 32 bit seems to result in corrupting this repair programme after use.
Have you any experience with asftools under Vista 32 bit. In particular avoiding corrupting this programme after use.
Best wishes

Ps. If you have come across a better repair utility under Vista, let me know, it could be useful -
Sorry I don't have any experience with asftools.
You can try Windows Media File Editor, which comes as part of Windows Media Encoder.
