  1. update: I just needed to open the Avseq01.dat file in the windows media player. Also tried buring a copy using Nero svcd, and it worked without having to choose "open with" (gave me a clue.) So . . . If the mods want to delete this, fine. I'm leaving it for now in case anyone else new has trouble like this (and because I couldn't find a delete post button.

Hi everyone. I'm a little lost here--this is what I've done so far, and I think I made a mistake somewhere.

I downloaded an episode of Buffy I want to watch. It was in a winRAR type file, so I decompressed it, and that works (decompressed to a working .avi file).

Then I used TMPGEnc to convert this to an MPEG file. It took all night (is that normal? I started at 11:30, and when I woke up to check it at 6:00, it was just finishing up.)

Then, I followed the directions at this site and used Nero to burn a CD. The CD I produced has these folders and files:

    Cdi Folder--nothing in it
    Ext Folder--Lot_x, Psd_x, and Scandata.dat
    Mpegav Folder--Avseq01.dat
    Segment Folder--nothing in it
    Vcd Folder--Entry, Info, Lot, Psd

Is this playable? I can't get it to work and when I've put in vcd's that other people made, there was a .avi or .mpg file that was easy to find.

Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?

Btw, when I tried to use a different product (Instant Cd/Dvd) to author the vcd, I got this error message:

    ----------------------------------------
    hecked file : C:\My Documents\smashed2\Buffy_609_Smashed_[necratog4_100mb]\Buffy_609_Smashed_[necratog4_100mb].mpg

    Invalid fixed_flag or CSPS_flag

The parameters of the file you are attempting to use do not comply with the VideoCD specification.

    Recommendation:
If you are sure that the MPEG2 file is not corrupt and within the specifications of the target system you can click on Ignore to continue and use the specific MPEG2 file.
Otherwise you should create an MPEG2 file which complies with the standard. Some MPEG2 creation utilities allow MPEG2 files to be created according to the Super VideoCD standard.
This option should ALWAYS be used when creating MPEG2 files to be used in InstantVideo for creating a Super VideoCD.
    -----------------------------------------------

The file is MPEG, not MPEG2, and I wasn't making a super video cd, just a regular one. I tried to make a supervcd with it on InstantCD/DVD and got the same message.

Any help greatly appreciated, and thanks,

    tasha

Firstly, In the Mpeg Tools of TMPGEnc goto demultiplex and add the file.

This will then give you the info for the video and audio settings which were used to make the mpeg

    What do they say?
