  1. Using Avidemux, I cut out a section of a 1:54 video clip at 1:15 and then again at 1:50. The cut video clip played fine in vlc player 1.1.4 and windows media player 11 with no other problems. Then with AVIdemux, I combined it with 3 other clips and converted it into an mp4 video with mp3 audio. Once again, the video clip played fine in VLC player and Windows Media Player however, the actual combined video is 2:58 but the progress bar continues after 2:58 to 4:06 both in vlc player and windows media player. In AVIdemux and Virtualdub mod it only goes to the actual length of 2:58. Is there something I can do to fix that so the progress bar will be shortened to the length of the actual video.

The other thing is that I uploaded this same film to Youtube and that problem does not occur.

That's a faulty index. Can you just download the good file from YT and use that?

I quit using avidemux because of this kind of stuff.

  3. Thanks,

That's good to know. Now I don't have spend days trying to figure out how to get it right.

The only thing about downloading from Youtube is that I think Youtube converts it to a smaller size. My video was 640 by 480 and I believe Youtube converts it to 640 by 360 so there is some loss in resolution size. 640 to 480 is already the minimum size I want as it is because when you fill out the screen you lose quality. I will have to look for another program so I don't have to spend time uploading to Youtube only to convert it to a smaller size I don't want.

    In VirtualDub:
'File' > 'Open Video File' > select file and check 'Ask for extended options...' > check 'Re-derive key frames' might rebuild the index (if it's corrupted) then 'Video' > 'Direct stream copy' and resave.
