    I was updating Windows on one of my Desktops & after I did a reboot I got this error. Now what? I was trying to download the updates for NET Framework 2.0 to 3.5 buy going to the download site manually .... It would not update automatically.

    Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

    I found this link... but damn seams it would be easier to wipe drive and reload OS then this.

    No. Tried that many times. Goes back to the error. Says to install XP cd-rom and repair.

  4. Boot up with CD, go into recovery console, type chkdsk /r and hit return, wait. There's a good chance it will boot normally afterwards.
