I hate the black bars at top and bottom of the screen. I know I can zoom in with the controls for the TV but somehow the image seem slightly stretched.
What is the best method of cropping the those bars to reclaim the full screen? I guess I would need to reencode the MKV files but I would like to keep the format including sound.
My preferred resoultion is 1280X720.

You going to have to encode it. Try using multiAVCHD
1. Load file and hit transcode button
2. set crop/zoom
3. set bitrate
4. set file type MKV
5. set destination
6. hit start
7. hit MKV file type (it start encoding

You understand that by doing this you are cutting off part of the image. Depending on the film, it could be up to 25% of the picture.
If you must do this (and I still do not understand why people do), you can use UncropMKV, which is the transcoding engine from MultiAVCHD as a standalone package. Simpler and smaller if you aren't creating AVCHD discs.Read my blog here.

Timmychuck, MultiAVCHD worked beautifully. The only problem was that it split the file, I just need to figure it out why. Any suggestions on bit rate setting?
guns1inger, I understand I could lose 25% of the picture but I enjoy my movies a bit more by not having the black bars at top and bottom. What is worst losing 25% of my 50 inch screen or 25% of the actual picture? I guess it comes down to your personal choice. Unless you have a huge cinema screen at home I don't think it matters if you lose some the sides and a bit at top and bottom making up the 25%. I will give UncropMKV a try tonight and see how it works out. -
I have never had a huge screen. My biggest is a 37 inch LCD, and my second TV is 78 CM CRT. I have never cropped a movie in my life, and I have never, ever, seen the black bars that worry some people so much. I guess I stupidly watch the movie instead.

I respect you opinion but I get a lot more enjoyment from movies with the bars cropped out. As I said before it all comes down to personal choice and the distance you sit from the screen.

Can I ask about your source? (Resolution, aspect ratio, format, etc..., use MediaInfo if you want a better idea.)
I hate VHS. I always did. -
I had same problem one time.
Goto the Author tab, on right side you see General .
Look for, media (mts) split at (MiB) put in a high number in( I have 10000 on mine)
What its doing is spitting at a certain point of file size.
Do not put 0 on it ,you end up with about 3000 mkv files. This happen to me -
Timmychuck I wil give your setting a try tonight. I just tried UncropMKV but it does not seem to get rid of those bars like MultiAVCHD does, it seems a lot simpler app. I tried Crop TB -16 or +16 with a sample file. What am I doing wrong?
