If you install Divx 5, it will overwrite the last codec 4.8, movies made with that codec should be ok, but so far divx 5 is full of bugs.

Divx 5 has dissociated its self from Divx and will do anything to make sure its product wont work with illegal divx codec's
However this should not effect Vdub or TMPGEnc.

The latest Divx 5 player is also full of bugs, and tries to connect for updates, I'm sure eventually all divx 5 movies will play, provided the player sends your information to the server.

  6. Divx 5 was a nightmare for me too. It's long gone and so are my sound problems.

DivX 5.0 sucks major donkey balls as of right now. If you ask me, the best DivX codec(s) were the original 3.11 low/fast motion hacks of Micro$oft's mpeg-4 codec (and thus are illegal). When I encode movies to watch on my PDA, the only DivX codec that gives good results at low bitrates is 3.11, so that's what I am sticking with.
