vlc-video is not opening instantaniouly

i have encountered a problem yesterday. when i clicked a mp4 file to open it in vlc player opened. then i stopped it and clicked on another one. but it was not loading. then i opted for media player and it played. in another occassion i opted for jet audio and it played. sometimes vlc is not able to load the video file. i am not in a position to thnk that the video file itself has some problem since it is being played in jetaudio or wmp.what do you think the cause may be?

What version of VLC? I've had a problem with 1.1.2 just locking up or disappearing at times. You might try checking 'Allow only one instance' in 'Tools>Interface settings.' If no luck, try a different version of the program. Make sure to delete the preferences on a re-install or a new install. (It should ask you in the installer.)

dear redwudz, thanks for the suggestion. i am using vlc v 1.1.4. in vlc IF settings i can see the following only.
1.Language
2.Look and Feel
options
a.minimal view mode
b.resize IF to video size
c.show stray icon
d.show controls in full screen mode
e.embed video in IF
f. systray popup whenn minimised out of which i have checked all options except the first one(option a)
