Hi, I am not sure if I post in the correct thread.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Today, I moved my laptop just a few feet, and suddenly I saw a strange blue/red/black spot like a blood drop on the LCD. (please see the picture). I am sure I didn't hit the lcd by anything and generally, my laptop is always at home. I turned the laptop off, and when I restarted, I even became worse and now I see some other small lines on the top flowing down the screen. It is not from the graphic card, because I connected the laptop to tv and there is no spot on the tv.
Does anybody have any idea, where it came from? and is it repairable? Can the lcd of a laptop be fixed or replaced?
I really appreciate your help.
Thanks.![]()

Broken LCD panel - will have to be replaced. Some screens are not as robust as others, fact of life I'm afraid

Well, something or someone hit it, bumped it, banged into it, etc....
Something like that does not just happen for no reason.
Do you have kids ?
That is usually the #1 reason for unknown reasons of problems.
Years ago a buddy of mine used to bring his desktop to me to fix on a monthly basis for over a year, i kept telling him, make sure you keep your kids away form it.
He was very adamant that none of his kids ever went near his PC even when he was not at home......
His 4 children that were from 4-10 years old at the time.
I was always like, Uh huh.... they are messing with it....
Then one day when he brought it over and when i picked up his tower i heard a clanking....
After shaking it a couple of times, i opened it up, took out the floppy drive, took it apart and found some pennies, nickles and dimes inside it!!
One of his kids were shoving coins into the floppy slot!!!
Just because you don't think you or anyone else was near it or banged it does not mean someone did not.Last edited by Noahtuck; 16th Oct 2010 at 23:58.

NO, I don't have kids! I live alone and as I said, I generally don't move my laptop. Yesterday (after the problem), I opened my lcd and another big spot appeared on the screen. There is Something wrong and I think it should be replaced, but it is still a question for me that why it happened without any strike.

Who knows? The same thing happened to one of my Samsung monitors. After two years of working flawlessly (never subjected to even the slightest abuse), it started developing dead pixels in the upper left corner. The area slowly started spreading. Fortunately I was able to get it replaced under warranty.

Is there something clipped to the monitor...the way some webcams clip to a monitor?

No, there is not such a thing. The fact is the lcd is definitely dead, and I ordered a new one. But it is still a question for me why it happened. It suddenly appeared on the screen, while I was working with my laptop!

Do you have a cat? My cat would love to sit on my laptop if I let him, one pounce could do it.... I keep mine on the slide out tray of an old computer desk. Beware also of large LCD TV screens mine loves to chase imaginary mice especially on HDTV

Hahaaa, No! I have no pet, no kid, ..... and I've never moved my laptop (I use it on my desk at home as a desktop computer) ...THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I AM WONDERING!
)
By the way, I replaced my lcd, and it's working well now. But I don't know why my previous lcd worked only for a year
