I have a couple of questions regarding YouTube uploads.
- Which is the preferred frame rate, 29.97 or 30 fps? YouTube says 30, but other people mention 29.97.
- What is the best resolution for "480p" video? 854x480 isn't allowed due to yv12/mod4 restrictions, right?

leave the framerate the same as the source. either is fine. 848 or 864 are fine if you're worried about divisible by 16. no one will notice it's not perfectly 16/9 on youtube. just make sure to use a high enough bitrate to get ok quality on the ytube. 4-5 mbps should work ok for 480p.

but, as said by aedipuss "just make sure to use a high enough bitrate to get ok quality on the ytube. 4-5 mbps should work ok for 480p."
i wud rather go for 5500kbps (+++) video bit-rate.Last edited by Bonie81; 5th Feb 2012 at 21:14.

For 480p, don't waste time encoding the bitrate higher than 1100, which is what YouTube will reencode it to. For 720p, use 3000. For 1080p use 5000 or 5500.

The higher value of video you keep, the more better quality comes after its downsizing ... I guess if our bandwidth can allow or time isn't the constraint (you can leave the upload during the night) then one should try to get the maximum bitrate as youtube will eventually REENCODE it anyways ... youtube doesn't uses two pass encoding on its server side I guess which might reduce the quality further. So best bet to get as much bitrate as you can.
