Can I use a Composite to HDMI upscaler to turn the composite output of my PS3 to full HD (for it to look as if I were using HDMI directly)?

Can't the ps3 output 1080p over component? I know the xbox 360 can do that - over component that is.

My ps3 is currently connected via hdmi and I don't want to wrestle out my component cable to verify myself (fat 40gb model).

Edit - besides any converter probably won't do any better than whatever upscaling technology your tv has internally - unless its a really old hdtv perhaps.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

Yes, the PS3 can do 1080i over component. No, using a HDMI upscaler will not make composite look like HD as if you were coming directly out of the PS3 using HDMI. It will look like standard definition composite run through an upscaler. If the upscaler in the HDMI unit is better than the upscaler in your TV then you might get a slight improvement. If it is worse, you will in fact get lower quality.

Why not just use the HDMI that is built into the PS3 ?

It won't look significantly better than composite direct to an HDTV.
