  1. Hello,
I was wondering if you could recommend any software packages
that would allow me to capture directly to mpeg I or II. I have
the packages recommended in the tools section of the site, but
the trial versions didn't recognize my Hollywood DV-bridge.
I think they're looking for an actual dv camcorder.
I'd like a solution where I can just start capturing, and stop it in
an hour or 1.5 hours or whatever when the video is done, and then
burn the resulting file to CD. So far I've been using Adobe Premiere,
which captures in AVI format, 4gb (or about 18 mins I think) at
a time, so I have to have a huge amount of disk space free
and I have to keep an eye on it to start the next segment every
18 mins or so. Then I have to convert it before burning it, and
the conversion/export process takes hours. All I want to do
is convert my videotapes to VCD format and it would be SO
much better to be able to do that in roughly the time it takes
to play the video plus burn time instead of 6 hours or more
    apiece!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    thank you,

  2. I am in the process of doing the same thing with my VHS tapes. Even though it takes longer capturing to AVI and then encoding to MPEG, I found doing it that way produces a better result. I had a Hollywood Dazzle also, but found it sometimes was not recognized by my computer. I sold the Dazzle and bought a Sony DVMC-DA2, which does the same thing as the Dazzle and has worked flawlessly. Not sure if any of the capture programs encoding to MPEG, will give decetn results. It has been a long learning process, but this website has been very helpful.
