  1. All my VCD's when played in a player after burning Stutter. Sometimes it will STOP/START and play okay for a minute and then Stutter again.

The MPEG plays fine so it must be during the burn process.

    I am using NERO 5.5.7.2
    1.2ghz AMD w/IWILL K266 MB
    Primaris CD-R Media 16x 80min
Burning at 6x (4x does the same)

I also played a VCD from a friend and it plays just fine.

    Please help.

    Thanks!!!!

  2. ummm lets see
    it might be your media
    i like princo
but you should use one many agree is best on your dvd player
or find out what your friend uses
if you do use what he uses
try lowering burn speed to 1x
are your friends vcd made by him or did he buy them from a company?
if they arnt made by him then it might just be your dvd player

ohh yeah see if anyone gives you better advice befor taking mine

  4. Hi,
Having gone through similar situation here are few words of advice. Always use lower bitrate, the default TMPGEnc rate of 2520 for SVCD is too high and will make any DVD player stutter. Use the VBR template instead, you get excellent quality and smaller file size. Instead of Nero I use VCD Easy and burn at 8x on my Yamaha 16 burners. I primarily use Mitsubishi/Verbatim Super Azo blanks and find that they run happily on my Yamaha stand alone DVD player. Using good quality blanks is a must.

  6. I say if you want to use alot of CDs and want the final product look great use a high Bitrate and CBR.

I encoded Three Kings @3000 CBR (SVCD) and also at the 1950 VBR. CBR wins.

Its all dependent on your player. The APEX 1100W for 73.00 plays everything.

For a 1/2 your tv program, I go with 4000CBR and use one disc. Discs are cheap and so is the APEX.

  7. Well, I changed media, burned lower (2x), and even used Roxio instead of Nero....

AND I STILL GET A GRAINY, CHOPPY, VCD that SKIPS and STUTTERS - WHY? :(

I have the Star Wars Box Set VCD from Eureka Movies - plays great!! No issues there. :D

The MPEG's that I create play and look great! They don't skip or stutter.

Please Please. Does Someone - Anyone have any ideas??

What DVD player are you playing the files back on?

Were the VCDs from your friend BURNED VCDs or Manufactured?

Have you tried making VCDs with the same settings / software that your friend was using? (assuming they were burned VCDs)

    ************************************************** ****

Not all DVD players can play ALL MPEG formats.

Were you using MPEG1 or 2?

    ************************************************** ****

    Here's an example:

    I have a Toshiba DVD 3109 and a Panasonic RV31u-k

The Toshiba will not play ANY CD-R/RW period. Not audio not video.

The Panasonic will play standard VCDs and xVCD with a bitrate up to 2300kps.
With highly reflective CD-Rs I can get up to 2400kps

It will only play CBR if I use VBR it stops and starts and skips.
It will only play MPEG1 if I use MPEG2 it stops and starts and skips.

    I hope this helps.

Give us more info in what you are using....

  9. I have a Toshiba 4700 and it seems to play all formats. I put in a CD-R and a CDRW and same result of choppy video. So I am certain it's something I am doing (since the Star Wars plays fine and LOTR too).

    http://electronics.cnet.com/electronics/0-6342369-1305-6150335.html?tag=rev-rev

The Star Wars VCD's were from Eureka and played excellently.

The VCD my friend gave me was from another buddy of his - he just did a CDCOPY.

As far as the MPEG1 or MPEG2 format, I can only say that I follow the instructions on this site making a DVD to VCD and also CloneAD's site too.

I would think that if the Star Wars VCD's play great, than I should be able to make one just the same.

Is there something to the encoding I should be looking at? The FPS is up around 29, but that seems normal according to this site and other sites.

    Thanks for any feedback folks!

  10. I have the same problem. The vcds I create will play from my software dvd player without a hitch. When I try them in my standalone player the video speeds up and slows down causing the audio to be out of sync. I have tried three brands of media and always have a problem. I have tried burning at different speeds and still same problem. I did manage to burn a bunch of music videos ripped from DVD and burned to a 3" cd in vcd format. That disc works fine in my stanalone. What you should try is burning the commercial vcd you have on your usual media and see if that works. If it does the same thing then it is your media or something going wrong in the burning process.

  11. Well, here's an update and please tell me what you think.

So I can play my VCD's in my Computer DVD player but not my Toshiba 4700. I handed over my VCD's to a friend who has an APEX AD800 and he says that my VCD's looks great - no issues. This is the same person who burnt a VCD for me (a tv program) and it worked fine in my player.

In summary, I can play others VCD's and they can play mine. but I cannot play my own in my Toshiba 4700 - my thought on this is IT'S THE PLAYER (toshiba 4700).

If you have a Toshiba 4700 and you can play your own VCDs, than tell me if there is a setting because I couldn't find one. I am buying an APEX AD800 now and returning the 4700.

    YES/NO? COMMENTS?

Sometimes player brands can be real picky. When I use TMPGEnc to encode to 16:9 output SVCD and burn, any Apex players puke on them but play perfectly in any other SVCD compatible player. If I encode to 4:3 out, the Apex does just fine. Sucks because I own a 16:9 widescreen and want my SVCDs to stay in their original aspects. Guess you just got to buy another brand.

  13. Check your field order. I assume you used TMPGEnc and check to see if the field order under advanced setting is right. I had the same problem.

THe latest version of TMPGEnc which uses the Wizard analyzes and uses the right field order...

Let me know if that corrected it

i set my FO to A should it be set to B? I am using TMPGEnc Plus.

    Thanks.

  15. If you are using TMPGEnc plus then leave the field order as it is analyzed....

The link below will also tell you if u how to get the right field order.... it takes a little time but do try both orders to know exactly which one is right...

Let me know if this worked

  16. Actually, the FO should be fine since the movies I burn do play - just not in my player.

  17. I had just the same problem with my daewoo dhc-2200k, vcd´s stuttered.
I burnt mayby 20 discs before I found a solution. It seemed that if i used another encoder than tmpgenc, like panasonic, the stuttering got away.
Try it. It may help, it may not, but its worth a try.

  18. My Apex 1500 only stutters at the end of the movie on home made vcds. I use the standard SEFY's method, everything works great, then the last minute or two (usually around 60 mins.......) the video starts and stops , but the audio continues fine. I use Sony or TDK silver media, smartripper, dvd2avi, tmpge, and nero 5.5.5.2. All my moives do this.

I see that the Panasonic encoder user AVI's. If I already have VOB's it doesn't appear to want those. Does it take the one MPG and I have and re-encode it?? I look at the link on how to use it but was a bit lost.

  20. @xlnlif, You can make Panasonic Encoder access VOB files by using a combo of both DVD2AVI and VFAPI Converter, first you create the D2V/WAV file and then you convert the D2V into a fake AVI file using VFAPI.
