Using Vegas 9e (both 32 and 64) on Win7-64 system. After importing a number of DV clips onto the timleine, I export to a single DV clip for use with VirtualDub (very fast--no recompress). I then open the clip in VirtualDub, apply some noise reduction filters, and then save as a new DV clip using the MainConcept DV codec. However, Vegas doesn't seem to like the new clips. When I "click" on one of these files in the explorer window, Vegas hangs indicating the the software is not responding, but after a minute or so it eventually identifies the file and lets me drag it to the timeline. While not a complete showstopper, it is very annoying. Once on the timeline, I can re-render to another DV file (no recompress) and at that point, it will quickly be identified. Perhaps Vegas doesn't like the MainConcept DV codec? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  2. Try Cedocida instead of MC.

This is normal, Vegas needs time to ingest the media.

Why not use the Sony filter(s)? Use track FX in the lefthand panel to do all the events with the same filter.

There are many good reasons to go outside Vegas, but this isn't one of them

I've tried Cedocida with the same result.

I've just downloaded the new Vegas Pro10. Same thing--it takes a very long time to ingest these DV files. Here's what's odd--if I open them in Vegas Pro 8c, they ingest almost instantly. If I re-render them to DV (no recompress), they will load "almost instantly" in V9 and V10. Any ideas?

I've been using some of the noise reduction filters not available in Vegas, including Neat Video--hence the reason to go outside of Vegas.

    Thanks for the replies.

That's because Vegas is indexing them in its own special way that provides all the magical functionality on the timeline. It's well worth the wait, hahaha.

Vegas needs a more robust index because of subclips and other advanced features.

  6. what kind of audio did you use when exporting out of vdub? if it's not uncompressed, vegas will spend extra time conforming the audio

compare the clips using mediainfo and gspot , between original clips, vegas export, vdub export

The thing is, don't view this as a negative. The power in the Vegas timeline is awesome and unmatched by any other NLE. You can throw all kinds of mixed media on the same track and edit transparently without a care for formats and codecs etc. That "magic" timeline is what you're paying for, and is the core functionality that makes Vegas what it is. So think positive
