  1. I want to buy a media player and can't decide between these 2. From what I read online WD is not that good. I would go for Asus, but not certain.

I am concerned about video quality, that's it.

    Wait for GoogleTV intro tomorrow.

The Logitech Review is the first device. Watch this space.

It will be more expensive but may force prices down for WDTV and O!Play.

  4. Regarding the WDTV series: If you want native Netflix streaming you need the latest WDTV Live Plus. If you can live with PlayOn as a Netflix DLNA server (PlayOn runs on a computer, connects with NetFlix and streams the videos to the WDTV) you can use the WDTV Live (not sure about the older WDTV HD).

You can get the refurb unit for $45-49 at a bunch of places and it is well worth considering while the dust settles on all of the networked boxes that are being introduced. It plays virtually anything you throw at it and plays it very well. I bought a refurb unit to throw in my suitcase while I wait for someone to introduce a tablet with HDMI output. At $45, you won't feel bad if your dream device comes out in two months as it isn't a very big investment.

  6. I think both players are good. I have the Asus and it plays everything I throw at it. The bonus part is that it plays DVD ISO's, complete with menu and everything. Very good little device.

  7. Lenti try Briteview's CinamaTube. I think it can play regular DVD Video TS files (not confirmed) and some FLV files. IT has some pretty strong reviews. The downside is firmware updates may be lacking.

The latest beta firmware for the WDTV Live plays DVD ISO with menus. So does the Live Plus.
