    Well, 11 of 41 antivirus programs doesn't agree. https://www.virustotal.com/file/46d65264e025efaa8d5c1c5d64be776527f5801aa22fe76b7caf34...is/1343899371/

But they are probably false positives.

Edit: File removed. Google doesn't like it....

Post 31 is a link to a virus scan analysis of the file I referenced. I see no way to download the file from that. And the previous link is dead. Hence my request for a re-post. Much appreciated if you happen to have the file!

The page in the link on the top right corner has something that says "Download Now" next to a yellow colored icon. If you click on Download Now it is the file you want.

I'm not retarded =) When you click that link it reffers you to:

    http://www.gekiura.com/file_free/relCPRM.zip

    which redirects to: http://www.mobageki.net/

It does not provide the file. I would not have requested a repost if the link worked.

I was pointing out that the version that claimed to be virus free had just as many positives at VirusTotal as the other versions. So you might as well use one of the others. Or is the problem that you can't find any at all?

Actually yea it is proving pretty hard to find. All the links have been dead. I haven't gone to any of the particularly shady looking links I saw. If I do find it one I'll run it in a VM just in case. I'm just trying to help out a friend, one time deal hopefully.

It scans ok with Microsoft security essentials. VirusTotal shows several positives though.

Thanks a bunch! I'll run in a VM just to be safe.

Depends which. Some of the many AV products I've seen on VirusTotal are ones I've never heard of. If all or nearly all of the well-known ones do not flag something, that may be an indicator. The developers or firms behind several of these AV programs may lack the resources to keep up, or weed out false positives.

  14. Hello guys,
I'm new to this and this is my first post. Here's my problem, I've got a lifetime of home movies (svhs, vhs), many of which I copied to Dvd using a Toshiba video recorder before knowing about or understanding cprm. I'm not looking to burn commercial movies and watch them but what I want to do is work with these dvd's (cprm) on my computer and edit them, put them in some kind of order. It seems from reading this thread that "relcprm" seems to be the only choice. My question is will this program strip the cprm completely so that I can convert, edit, and copy many times as editing requires without losing quality. Is there someway I can get as good quality as the playback on the Toshiba players on my computer? I can play these discs on vlc as vro files but I've already lost quality just playing the disc made by the Toshiba, on my computer. As you can see by my post, I'm not a computer genius. Any help and advice would be appreciated. Thanks

  15. Home movies should not have recorded with CPRM. You should be able to open your VRO files with Mpg2Cut2 directly. The resulting MPG files will be exactly the same quality as what's on the disc. Whether further editing in an NLE results in losses depends on that NLE and what you do with it.

  16. Thanks jagabo, Unfortunately in Japan the machine video recorders these days do not give you a choice they're locked into recording in cprm only. Had I known that several years ago when I bought recorder, I'd be a lot happier camper now. (The first Toshiba I owned you could record direct from svhs to DVDram only (in cprm which nobody had heard of then) the later ones you have to record onto the machines HDD then HDD to DVD-r or -rw again cprm only).
It was a costly and pain in the butt lesson to learn

If your discs have CPRM just use relCPRM to copy the contents to your hard rive without CPRM. There is no loss of quality.

I don't know what you mean by "real media link". The link in post 41 still works for me. If you get a file with Japanese characters you may need to rename it, removing the Japanese characters. I've seen some archive programs screw up with foreign language file names.

  20. I'm sorry I meant media fire, I get an english "download" button on right side near top. I get the box that says "open the file with" (browse), I've clicked both bit comet and explorer as choices and either time a window appears that says "file is invalid or corrupted" what am I doing wrong?

  21. This last time I tried the site I got a flashing red box that covered the top of page that said in Japanese "spyware detected press "ok" which of course I didn't. I'm at a loss here.

Do you have any new news on this matter?.
My youngest daughter is living in Japan, and sends me home videos on DVD, and these come with vro format, so I have tried everything post here,
but I can not make the relCPRM process to finish successfully, I just get an error message. thanks

I was usually able to work around that problem by using a different drive on a different computer. As, I recall, I only saw that problem on DVD+R, not on DVD-RAM.

Thanks for your prompt response, and I do understand what you indicate, thats why I buy 2 DVD-RAM units from the list provided, on validated DVD's, for use with relCPRM, but the problem remained.

Any other suggestions, will be very grateful.

  26. I think this Liteon drive was the one that worked best:

    http://www.amazon.com/Liteon-iHAS324-DVD-RW-Optical-Drive/dp/B002QGDWLK

Otherwise, I don't know what to suggest. The text in the program isn't readable on my computer -- presumably because I'm not set up for Japanese. But here's the settings I used:

Is it only some discs giving you problems? Or all of them?

If you're just looking for a way to play the discs, my Mom bought one of these a few years ago

    http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-DVR620-DVD-Recorder-Black/dp/B001T6K7G6/

Although it doesn't say it plays DVD-RAM or VRO discs, it plays them. Including CPRM encrypted discs. Not cheap though.

  27. Hi guys,
I' m still trying to find an ideal way to deal with this problem. I'm still dealing with Toshiba who insist that if I record from HDD to the DVD recorder on their machine and record to DVD-RW discs they should not be cprm encrypted. This is bullshit. Here in Japan not only do you have to deal with cprm but some DVD's that you record can only be played on the company's machine that you used to record. I have two Toshiba's and the old model didn't use cprm and I could record direct to ram but the new models all have cprm so if you just want to watch the tapes then like jagabo's mom, getting a used toshiba player would probably be the best bet. You should also be able to watch vro on your computer using video lan.
For copying and editing, I still haven't found a suitable way to put all my old tapes on dvd and keep the quality through editing multiple times. I'm resigned to fixing my old broken pre-cprm toshiba player/recorder and recording straight to ram. It's not gonna be cheap. I can't begin to understand the thought process that leads a company to make cprm compulsory for recording HOME MOVIES. Also if you just want to watch, maybe you could have your daughter send you a real cheap made-for-japan player which will play cprm tape (have her check to see if it plays her tape before she buys it). You can find play-only machines about the size of a book for a hundred dollars or so, with a built in screen. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. If I do find a way, I'll get back on this thread. Hopefully someone a bit brighter than I will come up with the answer.

Again, thanks for your prompt response, old records work well, new ones are those that give problems, I'll try to get the unit that you recommend,
    thank you.

Well 4 years later I see my original post has got bigger.

A personal thanks to jagabo who followed up on most forum posts.

Well I have continued using the hardware I suggested on POST #24

However recently my wife was complaining the Logitect external USB player no longer worked - for 2 reasons.
After moving to WINDOWS 8 system
    1. Logitect do not provide a win8 compatible driver for the external DVD drive
    2. The logitect software ROXIO CinePlayer 5 is no compatible with Windows 8.

After a bit of research - you could try using COREL Win DVD Pro 11 USD$48 http://www.windvdpro.com/en/products/windvd/pro/
Although not mentioned on any english version of the software - Japanese websites do mention its capability for direct playback of CPRM video. Translate this page in yahoo... http://item.rakuten.co.jp/dtc/4528992093023/
However the free 30 day trial has the CPRM ability disabled - it reads the disc in my standard DVD caddy - but says "skipping CPRM content"

I have yet to purchase and test if the software will work as suggested.

I'll come back at a later point with an update.

    Confirmed!

Corel WinDVD PRO 11 allows playback of CPRM disc with the aid of a CPRM patch applied to the software.

    INSTRUCTIONS
Download and install Corel WinDVD PRO 11
If you have a previous version installed or a demo version - the install file will ask you to confirm removal.
Once removal is completed you will need to re-run the install file.

On a clean install you should be prompted with name and serial number.
    Complete the install and finish.

If you are playing a CPRM protected disc for the first time - it will ask you to register with Corel - click OK
You are directed to a web sign-up form

If you don't want to - just put in any dummy data as you will not need it again - the email address is not required to download the CPRM patch.
On the next screen is the download button - click it.

As a backup precaution - also copy the download URL link and paste somewhere you can remember later.

Save and then run the CPRM.exe

After the patch has been applied - WinDVD Pro will reboot

Your CPRM patch should be successful and you can now watch CPRM protected discs.

    Things to consider.
    1.
I'm not sure but the installation of the software picked up our DVD drive region which for obvious reasons had been set to JAPAN.
After installation of WINDVD PRO you may be required to set your drive region to JAPAN to play the CPRM disc - But I'm not sure that this would be required given the CPRM Patch. TRY playing your CPRM disc before resetting your drive region - you only get limited chances to change your drive region.
    2.
I'm wondering if the CPRM Patch file would work on the 30day Trial version. I have a copy of the CMRP.exe file if some one wants to test this out - let me know.

I hope this helps a lot of people.
