I recall so many reports about less common items (for example: Pioneer Service Discs, via e-Mule or whatever was popular at the time) taking weeks, where the d/l had only progressed to 49%. I suppose in the case of some very common, high-demand files, where you've got a gazillion seeders, the d/l would be much quicker. But then you'd still have major security issues re malware, and be wise to employ Peer Guardian. Your computer is exposed to whomever, for awhile. So I'd still say 'No Thanks' on P2P. Those are pretty much non-issues with the other approach. With a bit of searching, you may find the option for parallel D/Ls of interchangeable segments from separate file host services (all Free, btw), and quickly be done with it. Once in a rare while I see a fake archive, or a corrupt segment, but that's about it, risk-wise.

Heh.. I don't really mean to sound condescending.

I've been downloading torrents (TV Torrents mainly) for many, many years now. probably well more than a terabytes worth. I have NEVER been hacked. Very occasionally I have downloaded a misrepresented torrent file which was a virus but a little common sense keeps me safe (if in doubt scan before opening). EZTV is a very reputable site and its torrents are always as advertised.

I'm inclined to agree with Browncoat. If something takes weeks I'd say you're not going to get it at all, mostly. It probably never shows a 100% availability (and never will). But what gets me is - where else? You mean other places like this yahoo place I'm failing with, but which you can succeed with? Like streaming video places? Because if you do I see two problems: (1) they'll sooner or later all get on this yahoo bandwagon that can't be cracked and (2) that's the 'delay' method, where you have to sit through the whole thing to get it...... my bitorrent works while I'm asleep.......

NO, that's not what I mean at all. It is already "canned", in final, generally good quality form. You do need to gather the pieces and unRAR them. If you prefer a TV-style experience -- as opposed to viewing on the computer -- you would need to run them through something like CX2D . . . or maybe not, if you have a WDTV or one of its competitors. (But that would still apply in the case of your torrent-derived files.)

I'm giving away the candy store here, and the mods may well sandblast me for this . . . but if they allowed you to post eztv or other torrent sites, I don't really see much in the way of practical difference. (Except that I find this far preferable to torrents, IMO.) There is quite a substantial list, and these are just a few of my favorite sites:

    http://www.ev0.in/

    http://www.oneddl.com/

    http://www.scnsrc.net/tv/the-event-s01e03-hdtv-xvid-lol/

    http://sceneflux.net/sons-of-anarchy-s03e02-720p-hdtv-x264-orenji/

    http://sceneflux.net/search/Through the Wormhole/

I think they all have search capability. The programs are just examples: the only ones of these I've actually watched are a couple ep.s of the Morgan Freeman series, which is pretty good, but now that I know it's available on the VOD I already get, further D/Ls would be unnecessary. I have however enjoyed being able to see some U.K. series weeks or months before they were available in the U.S., and without censor snips or commercials. Anything you can't get (wherever you reside), happened to miss, or desperately wanted to see is out there, floating in the digital aether.

Just fired up P7Napper & it'll grab most series off their site. You might also like to check out SBSNapper and iViewNapper too!

Yep, I've got iviewnapper and I think it is great - but there's not much on it that I want. Not surprising I suppose, because really I want nothing... But what I mean is they don't list 'The Event' which is what I wanted and they don't list 'Two and Half Men', which I wanted yesterday.

My 4 year old loves the ditty "Men, men, men, many, many men, men" or whatever it is and I said I'd show it to him. Sat all through an episode last night (and really I don't like watching t.v.) and they never once showed that shot of the three of them in tuxedos singing 'Men, men, men, men'.

Other times they've seemed to be showing it every two minutes.

So I thought I'll try to get an old episode or two and maybe I can find it........ not in iviewnapper.

Just looked through half of that list of - what are they? tv download places? streaming tv video places? - that seeker listed and got all involved in a hassle trying to download two bits of one episode from two different places, RAR files. They were like from file download places. Then I noticed that was an season 8 file and here in Australia we're apparently doing season 3!

What about if they don't do that 'tuxedo song' thing?

So I tried to find a season 3 in a couple of those places and failed....

And there was some other hassle I got into... forget what... Oh, no, I remember... one of those places simply directed me back to eztv and that, of course, was a .torrent!! Not a hassle, just something I thought rather strange.

And I got one episode, courtesy of bitorrent (via those links, via eztv) - and the theme video didn't air!

So I just this minute went and got it from youtube and found my Replay Media Catcher wouldn't even catch that! I got it by switching to firefox and using the 'keepit' menu bar.

So as recently as right now the whole thing is a big mess - and torrents are a clear simple and reliable way out......

I'll check out those other 'nappers' though........

iViewNapper is for the ABC network, P7Napper is for the 7 network, SBSNapper for SBS network. But don't expect them to provide streaming content for episodes aired even more that a week or 2 ago

What can I tell you -- it's worked very well for me ! Lots and lots of 1.2G 720p MKV files, fine & dandy. None of the difficulties abrogard mentioned, and the ones you mentioned maybe 4 % of the time. I'll take that rate of success any day.

So, you don't see any corrupt files with your torrents ?

Hi Seeker... you know what I'd love to know? What IS the 'state of mind' in the USA today? That's very 'off topic' isn't it? I'll drag it within the scope, maybe, of the topic: where can we download an exposition, an illustration, a definition, a description, something that will show us the 'state of mind' of the USA today?

Gee, that's a tough one ! Some clues to be found -- perhaps -- after the results on Nov. 2. But I bet our voter turnout sux compared to yours, even in the midst of a terrible recession. (Which is NOT over, no matter what some bodies of ivory tower economists have said.) And maybe that disconnect says something itself.

You might start with a bunch of good contemporary documentaries. This will limit you to the inescapable POV of the particular filmmakers, and too many of them are knee-jerk Lefties, starting from unchallenged basic assumptions, for you to derive a proper spectrum of opinion from this. But it's better than nothing.

For starters, you should RUN in the opposite direction, far away from anything by that "giant Socialist weasel" Michael Moore. (Thak you, Trey Parker & Matt Stone !)

I've found a lot of interesting documentaries with the sources I detailed earlier in this thread. (See, that brings this back on-topic. ). I know it's gonna be a real downer, but two I'm hoping to have time to watch soon are one on gerrymandering (that may even be the title, relates to my first paragraph above, and may explain how a certain futility creeps in to the voters' mindset -- if they are even aware of this issue), and another pretty dire one, "Collapse." That one deals with a projected end-of-the-world scenario. Both may fall outside of the political taint I referred to -- we shall see.

Well, you've got me starting the day under a dark cloud. Hope I find something soon to change my state of mind, for the better !

Thanks for that. It is very pertinent to all of us, of course, the fate of the USA affects the fate of the whole world - and the fate of the USA is possibly going to be very influenced by the state of mind of its people... and when we, outside, look at the public face of the USA we often feel very troubled by what appears to be that state of mind.....

Sorry about the dark cloud. You're in Vegas? Go look your Bellagio fountains. The most beautiful thing I've ever seen and I've never seen it... just a video.. and looking for an URL to post here for folks that haven't seen it I found pages of video on youtube and not one of them good enough.... what a shame... i've lost the one I saw... it was magnificent...... i don't want to detrect from it by posting an URL to anything less wonderful.... so I'll just say.... whatever the state of mind of the people of the USA there's something really wonderful in there and it is expressed by these fountains.....
