So here is what is happening. I just built a new computer. Haven't even booted it up yet. I've got the monitor set up and I had the video cable going into my video card(which has 2 video cable ports) and I booted it up and nothing came on the screen. So I tried the other video cable port on the video card and still nothing. So I thought ok...maybe I have to switch from on board video to the video card in the BIOS, so I tried hooking the cable into the motherboards video port. Still nothing...

The LCD screen works. Cable I'm less sure about but I was pretty sure it worked too.

Any ideas? I'm a bit puzzled.

Tried switching cables. Nothing. Tried using an HDMI cable and going from both my motherboard AND the video card to my Plasma TV. Nothing. Thoughts?

also the CD-ROM drive doesnt seem to be working. I can't get it to open. Other than that, all the fans are running including the video card fan and the Processor fan. So I suppose the mother board is getting power otherwise their of those fans would run.

Any beep codes from the motherboard speaker? That would tell you if the video card wasn't working. Also on power up, can you feel some vibration in the hard drives? Do they get a little warm after about ten minutes? That usually indicates they are running.

Fans are 12VDC, so that part of the power supply is apparently working. SATA drives also use the 3VDC and 5VDC connections. The 12VDC for the SATA drives may be on a different PS rail also. The motherboard is also apparently sending the 'ON' signal to the PS.

Have you tried booting it without the add on video card? You may have to do that, then in BIOS, switch it to the new card, power down, add the card and power up again. Normally, though, it would just see the new card and use that.

I would first recheck all MB and drive connectors. Also RAM and PCI card connectors. If nothing, pull all cards, unplug all drives except the boot drive and try again.

If nothing, try a substitute power supply.

what redwudz mentions about removing the vid card and trying the onboard graphix is a good start. Also remember to make sure the onboard graphics are enabled. Also changing power supplies is a good idea also.

if your not getting the cd rom to work then its either the power supply, its not connected correctly or its just plain dead. Try another dvd/cd drive in its place

also, if u have a spare monitor lying around, use it also

make sure both power supply connectors are plugged into the board(theres a little one, 4 prongs..and a long one)...i once forgot to plug the smaller one in and had the same result...immediately looked inside and saw i forgot to connect it and...voila...worked fine
