Hi guys I recently decided to start a music video collection and I have a bit of a dilemma.
Obviously, being a music video collection the volume levels can vary quite a bit but I would like to make them all roughly the same volume.
Taking this task into consideration the first thing that popped into my head is that it cannot be done without re-compressing the video file (unless things have changed over the last 5 years).
So, having this in mind I am after the most appropriate video editing program for:
1. Automatically keeping the same video resolution/codec etc...
2. Somehow re-rendering the video file with the least amount of video compression
3. Quick and easy audio volume editing (but being able to see the waveform is a must)
Can anybody here think of the best program for this?... and if so, please explain why.
Thank you all in advance![]()

Of course it can.
Demux the file to video and audio.
Boost the audio,
Remux the original video and new audio.
Video unchanged, audio suffers slight degradation.
Details depend on the format.
Eg, if they're AVI, you can do this with VirtualDub or Avidemux, and perhaps Audacity for the audio.
And if it's MP3 audio, you can boost audio losslessly. (MP3Gain, eg.) -

There is a "script" called avi_gain which will demux your video, normalize the audio track and then remux it back together.
It's easy and will run through all avi files in a given folder.
It uses Mencoder and lame so the encoding is quite good. Only problem is I can't remember where I downloaded it from. However if you want a copy I can rezip my copy and post it here -
