I have some FCP DVCPRO HD .MOVs that I need to work with on my PC. I'm visiting a friend with FCP to convert them, so I'd like any advice on what the best comparable exporting option would be.

In other words, I'm hoping for some FCP users to tell me what to export it as, so I'm not dumb struck by the different options when I'm front of it. Ideally, the highest quality I can get is what I want, as long as it will play on a PC since these are the only raw files now. Here's the video info:

    Complete name : I:\BTS"BEN\BTS\0002IK.mov

Which programs on the PC? Later versions of AVID and Premiere Pro support DVCProHD P2 MXF format. Also Grass Valley's Edius. Vegas Pro needs Raylight to handle P2 media.

The whole point of the Material Exchange Format (MFX file) is to allow cross platform asset flow but progress is slow. Currently P2 card MXF assets and XDCAM MXF seem to be separate worlds.

It was originally P2 MXF. but was then converted to the MAC Quicktime version and will not play correctly, whereas I usually can play files straight from the P2 cards.

I've been told it would need to be converted to something else to play on PC, so I'm trying to find out what that best export option would be in FCP, in terms of quality.

I haven't moved P2 MXF in that direction. It is my understanding FCP can export to P2 MXF which is the common format. There may be other ways.

That would be fine. I wonder if exporting back to P2 MXF would return it to a PC friendly format and un-MAC-quicktime it, for severe lack of a better term?

As long as the editor on the PC side can accept P2 MXF. From there you can convert to other PC friendly formats.
