  1. So I have a 3 port HDMI switch. I can run an cable from my laptop through the switch to the tv and it works just fine so I know that cable and port works. When I try to do the same process from my cable box through the switch to the tv, I get no sound, only video. I've tried other cables and ports that I know works for sure and its the same thing. If I were to directly connect the cable from the cable box to the tv, I will get audio and video.

    Ideas?

I find sometimes unplugging and plugging the switch back in it tends to fix issues. I have a hdmi switch also and sometimes I can't read my pc's hdmi signal and doing this helps.

The same kind of reset may help your issue. Also it might help to unplug your fiber optic or digital coax cable from your dvr if you have one connected. Who knows maybe your switch thinks audio is going that way???? Anyway try the off then on again idea and see if it works.

If that doesn't work try using a different input slot on the hdmi switch. The port might be going bad.

  3. THere is a problem with the UN-NAMED HDMI switch box?? using the ANONYMOUS cable into the NO-NAME Tv. From the xxxx cable service.

    You see the problem?

Should this even be in the computer section?

Are you sure the direct connection works?

Many cable boxes have setup menus to route audio to HDMI vs. S/PDIF. But if it works with direct connection but not with the switch, it may be an HDCP encryption issue. The cable box HDCP configuration probably expects a receiver with a valid key.

    That could be an issue.

However at least for my motorola dvr from comcast (dch3416) all of my outputs are active simultaneously. I get audio via hdmi and fiber optic at the sametime without switching.

Though of course each box and company is different.

The original poster should definitely check the menu setup to see if there is an option to manually switch audio between hdmi and fiber optic (or digital coax).

  6. Yes the direct connection works. I have also tried a different port and its doing the same thing. My audio is just the tv speakers, so I don't have any spdif/optical going.

Seems like the switch is not HDCP compliant.
