I'm having problems getting sound on my recording from my Panasonic DMR-EA18 DVD Recorder. I have my video outputs through S-video and did the audio outs using the audio outs through my Comcast Cable box into the audio inputs of the Panasonic DMR-EA18 using the red and whites audio cables. I done it that way and I only get the picture on the recording but no sound. I have a Onkyo HT - RC160 Receiver and tried hooking up the sound through it but it only has audio outputs if I had the video through DVD/VCR ports. The main source is coming from the Comcast cable through the component cables which in pass through the receiver then to the TV. My sound is coming out of the receiver only. So I'm trying to get sound to come up on my recordings. So far I'm only getting video. I have the video coming through a S-video from the cable box to the front s-video input on the recorder. So what I'm I doing wrong? I'm to the point of buying another DVD recorder because of the hassle. Thanks for any help also.
DVD Recorder = Panasonic DMR-EA
Cable box = Motorola DCT6412
Receiver = Onkyo HT - RC160
Video output = S-video
Audio Output = RCA red/white L/R cables

Okay ... you take the audio from the CCB ... white and red to the Panasonic inputs in the front ... you say. And the video from the CCB to the front Panasonic inputs.
Or ... your connections are going to back of the Panasonic unit. On my Panasonic units ... there are 3 ... one in the front and two in the back.
And this is only for S-VHS connections.
Video Component connections ... can only be used with the ... Receiver = Onkyo HT - RC160 and on to the HDTV.
You most likely have more Video Component input connections on the back of the Onkyo.
I would hope you have 2 of them ... one from the CCB for Dolby Digital audio and High Def video broadcasts.
And the 2nd Video Component input connection would be from the output of the Panasonic ... so that you can see and hear DVD Movies ... DVD Video Quality and by using the digital connections ... toslink or Coax cables ... you will hear ... Dolby Digital ... 5.1 ... 6.1 ... or .... 7.1 ... surround sound.
You will have to choose with your Onkyo Receiver ... watch video from the S-VHS connections from the Panasonic DVD Recorder.
Or push another button to watch the video and audio ... with the video component connections ... you might need a Y spitter to connect the audio from the Panasonic DVD Recorder.
In my setup .... I use S-VHS video and the audio is ... red and white cables. But the audio and the picture wont be that great.
But I also have connected to watch DVD Video movies in all their glory ... with video component cables and digital audio ... using either a toslink cable or a simple coax cable [looks like a simple RCA audio cable.]
To use that Panasonic DVD Recorder correctly ... you are going to have alot of cables coming from your CCB unit and alot of cables connected to your Panasonic unit ....... and another whole bunch of cables connected to the Onkyo ... it will be a real rat nest behind your Onkyo Receiver.
"So far I'm only getting video. I have the video coming through a S-video from the cable box to the front s-video input on the recorder." ........ Dude ?? ... you will need to connect your audio from the CCB to the same section where you have your video connected to.
Read my specs ... I have two Pioneer Receivers ... one in the bedroom and one in the living room.Last edited by lacywest; 20th Sep 2010 at 08:42.

Something else to say ... dont bother taking it back for another unit ... they all hook up the same way.
You most likely have in the Panasonic Unit ... 3 inputs ... they are all designated ... Input 1 ... Input 2 ... Input 3. Two in the back and one in the front.
One of the inputs will be used for the outputs from the CCB for recording your shows ... using S-VHS cables and red and white audio connections.
But use the Component Video outputs from your Panasonic to be connected to your Stereo Receiver for higher Video quality. For good audio quality ... use a digital method ....... Toslink or Coax cables.
