  1. I want to convert the dvd "Nemo" to either avi or mpeg so that I can cut 2 minute slices of the movie for my students and have them practice the lines (I am teaching ESL). I have been able to copy the dvd onto my hard drive. I have found several tools that will convert the files to either avi or mpeg but I am having trouble getting the English subtitles to come along with it. I tried using GTK. It has an option to choose the subtitles but there are no subtitle files displayed to choose from.

I have chosen the vob file to convert. Is this correct? Am I doing something wrong or just haven't found the right tool yet?

Try converting the DVD to ISO using dvdhddecrypter then use fairusewizard to convert to avi making sure to check the box to include the subtitles.

GTK? AutoGK? You can choose to burn in subs in it. Be sure to open the vts_0x_1.ifo in autogk and not just the vob file.

Hi, i was converting a dvd to avi(with subs) using autogk and Xvid4PSP, and i can't change the size, font, position or color of the subs.
I tryed every possible way and tool i know of for extracting/editing the subs, and my problem was that the subs are not latin(English etc) but Cyrillic(Macedonian) but named as English in the DVD, so the OCR gives me "@^78605j_+#@@@" instead of the actual words.
The only way that worked.. is to manualy edit the idx sub file using notepad.
So my question is, is there any way of editing the size, font, position, color of the subs using Xvid4PSP for example, or any other "converter" when converting from dvd to avi including the subs of the dvd?

  6. The subs of the DVD? The IDX/SUB files? You can edit the colors and positioning in VobSub Configure (comes as part of the VobSub package). Not the size and font, though. For full control over everything you'd have to OCR to SSA subs.

Well.. i forgot about VobSub Configure
Yes , i know that OCR is the way to go, but it didn't work ("Cyrillic(Macedonian) subs, but named as English in the DVD").
Anyway, i already found the solution by editing the idx file in notepad, and i fixed the positioning, color and font-size this way, and i almost never do this kind of conversions.
I just wanted to know if there is some "one gui way" to do this, like with textsub in virtualdub etc.
    Thanks Manono.
