Is it possible to record HDV (1440x1080) on ordinary mini DV Cassete. What's the difference when use HD cassetes comparing to quality or drops for example, because these HD cassetes are much expensive then mini DV.
Regards.

Not a quality issue but a reliability issue.
DV25 and HDV are both 25 Mb/s data streams so bits are bits right?
Not quite.
DV25 records all frames so a glitch will affect one frame. HDV is MPeg2 with 15 frame GOPs so a glitch could affect 15 frames (half second). That said, the probability of a half second glitch is low.
Consumer MiniDV tape has other problems. It is stretchy and records a lower signal to noise so data loss is more probable. Pro MiniDV tape has dropped in price to consumer levels (or less than stores). Pro MiniDV tapes have a high quality backing intended for fast wind pro decks and record a stronger signal.
I use Panasonic AY-DVM63PQ for both MiniDV and routine HDV. On sale they are often $2.50 or less.

For special shoots I'll use the HDV marked tapes.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
