  1. I noticed that Walmart/Kmart don't carry the digital TV converter. When I asked an associate at Walmart about this, he mumbled something about "the government took the converters away". My question is: Why won't Walmart/Kmart carry the TV converters?
I ended up buying a used Apex for $15 from Craigslist. I noticed it ran rather hot. Checking on the web, all the Apex converters burned out the capacitors within 6 months. I accordingly cut a 1 inch hole in the cover directly above the transformer ( the component that generates most of the heat). As long as I don't stuff a paper clip down the hole, I should be OK.

The gov't was giving two $40 rebates for $49-69 ATSC to Ch3/4 NTSC converters over a year ago. Now you need to pay full price or buy used.

No money in this for Walmart. Try to find an online source. The good ones included Channel Master and Zenith (the later model).

My local K-Mart still had this model on the shelf a few weeks ago: http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_018W023835380001P?keyword=digital+tv+converte...2&blockType=G2

I have the Channel Master CM-7000 DTA box and it is a good one.
