Hi,
I was wondering whether anyone had the formula to guess how big a vbr mp3 file would be, based on the bitrate and length only - something akin to what is in GKnot which will show what the estimated audio file size wuld be and then what the video should be.
Edit: And also the MP3 Overhead as this seems to differ in size depending on how long the clip is - my aim is to replicate the values that gknot does myself, manually, the setting si use and that are always accurate for me are: http://i51.tinypic.com/2v82smp.png
Thanks.

If you are using Variable Bitrate audio, there's no way I know of to accurately estimate size. It would depend on the audio characteristics of each audio file, IE, how well it compresses. In some cases it may be as large as a Constant Bitrate file, most times a bit smaller. I avoid using VBR MP3 because of those problems.
But one CBR calculator in MS Excel format: http://www2.le.ac.uk/projects/impala/documents/resources-and-tools-for-creating-podcas..._download/file
Or just the setup: http://www.jeffreysward.com/editorials/mp3size.htm
EDIT: And since this is a audio question, moving to our Audio Forum.Last edited by redwudz; 13th Sep 2010 at 09:16. Reason: Change forum
