    I am trying to down scale a wide screen video in Movie Maker. However, the 16:9 option under "Tools > Options > Advanced" does not work! It only inserts black bars in a 4:3 to make it 16:9.

    So how do I get true 16:9 in Movie Maker?

    Is there a freeware app that I can fallback on?

    Sounds like you have a 4:3 video in the first place. Its either MM that chops of your video or you do it ahead of time. Either way, you've got 'black bars'.
