  1. How would I go about "emulating" the settings of a posted clip on YouTube? Is there a program that can give you very detailed information about that clip? How it was encoded, etc etc?

My thought was to gather this info and tool around with my export settings! Any thoughts?

  2. What makes you think you can upload something and then have it look like the way it was when you uploaded it, when YouTube is just going to reencode it anyway? Encoding something to match their settings is foolish since their encoding settings are so poor. What you want to do is to encode yours for upload using good settings. Then maybe it won't look so bad after they get through trying to ruin it.

Anyway, download one you like and have a look in MediaInfo or some such.

The closest that you could probably get to what you are asking for..........

Download the file off of youtube. I recommend firefox browser with the download helper add on. Very simple to use and free.

After you have the file downloaded onto your PC then open that file with mediainfo.

p.s. I do not understand what you mean by changing your export settings. What are you trying to accomplish there?
