  1. FOR DV capture in SONY VEGAS, I was told for that format I should set the capture to 3:4

    using Sony Vegas 7

    right or wrong?

    sorry for so many similar postings. I just feel better getting it correct the first time. I'm an audio engineer and I thought that was over the top tech choices, but I see video in the digital realm is way deep as well.

    Thanks for all the help people!

    I think you mean 4:3 which is full screen. That should be the target ratio for most vhs tapes. UNLESS they were letterboxed. Some are MOST aren't. If they don't have black bars then capture in 4:3. Even if they do have black bars best to capture in 4:3 so you don't get anything wide and squatty or tall and narrow.

    You can always crop and reencode later if you do end up getting a letterboxed video - but correctly capture first so its not distorted - that is all but impossible to correct after the fact. - or at least not fun to do once its captured incorrectly.
