  1. Hi guys
I’m trying to convert some videos with XVid4PSP, but since installing the latest version it really chews up my CPU usage when doing the x264 conversion. When I look in Task Manager priority is set to ‘high’. I can change it to above normal or normal which makes it fine, but as soon as the next in the batch starts it goes back to high. I can’t find any settings in XVID4PSP to change it, nor in Haali Media Splitter. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to force it to use normal or above normal?

    Thanks.

  2. I'm going by memory here , but I think there is an option in the GUI when the encoder dialog pops up in the lower left hand corner (at least the older 5.x versions)

  3. There is but the options are just idle, normal and above normal, but it says normal (but clearly isn't!) I can't see the setting anywhere in XVID4PSP or Haali, but it's under task manager for the process 'x264.exe' that always uses high. It's a pain to change the process everytime, especially when I'm doing a load of short recordings from my camera and the mouse sticks like hell each time it gets to the video part!

  4. Are you saying newly spawned x264.exe processes (e.g. 2nd pass, or next in queue) do not inherit the priority when set to idle in the xvid4psp GUI ?

If so, then it's probably a bug in the GUI, you should post the version you are using, and report it in the xvid4psp forum so they can fix it. If you want more priority options, then you could request that too

  5. Ah, yes, it is the newly opened version of x264. Do you know where the forums are to post? I didn't think Winnydows were supporting it anymore.

  6. Sorry not sure who has taken over or where their support forum is, but it looks like there are fairly recent posts still a few days old for v6 in the bug report forum and request forum

You can also try other software e.g. ripbot264, staxrip, megui, handbrake etc..
