  1. A friend at work gave me a dvd she had made with some home movies on it. She wants me to cut out a piece so she can send it in to funniest home videos.
I can't seem to be able to do it with any of the software that I have.

Is there a free software program that will allow me to do this? I don't want to pay for anything as this is a favour.

My crystal ball is a bit hazy I can't seem to work out what your operating system is or the software you have that doesn't do the job?

You need to get, if you don't already have one hidden away somewhere a MPEG editor that you can load the VOB files in so that you can edit out the bits she wants (as a favour of course).

    Hi
VLC media player has a red button that records whatever is playing.
To show the button look in 'View' and tick 'Advanced Controls'.
Then use pause/play to record the piece that you want.
You can download VLC from here:- http://www.videolan.org/
