  1. Hi all,

I've been using an encoding service to compress videos for streaming with the jw player, but now that I have a new HD camera and I am recording in high quality. The issue is that since my original recordings are high quality they take a long time to upload to the service, so I'm trying to see if I can find a software solution that would give similar results (low file size/good streaming quality) to the encoding service .

Browsing through here I found suggestions for using meGUI (or another) with x264 CLI, which I'm going to try out. I just want to get the best possible suggestions. Also I would be interested in paying software if its not too steep.

    Thanks!

What is your source details? Resolution and bitrate. Identify using mediainfo.

Megui is good, you can start with the built in one click mode. Use a high quality profile and try different video bitrates/file size and see how it looks like.

You can also use handbrake, xmedia recode, xvid4psp to shrink your hd files. All are using x264.

  3. Megui didn't accept my source file but xmedia worked great! It compressed to the same file size as the bitsontherun service and similar quality, at least to my untrained eye!
