I would love to get your opinions on the purchase of a DVD ROM for my PC. Also, I would like to find out if it is at all affordable to get a DVD writer for my PC.

    What is the latest ?

    Thanks,

    Jolo

  2. for DVD rom and DVD-R ( my bias against DVD+RW ) would be all Pioneer. I have both, a Pioneer 115 DVD Rom for DVD Ripping, and a Pioner A03 DVD-R ( RW ) for wrting to DVDs. I also have a Toshiba DVD Ram drive but have since gone completely over to the IDE format and no longer using my SCSI devices, the Toshiba being a SCSI device.

  3. Agreed.

Go with a Pioneer slot/tray loading 115 or 116 DVD-ROM and grab the the new Pioneer A04 (DVR-104) DVD-R/W writer.

You'll find less compatibility problems with DVD-R/W than you would with DVD+RW (+R has yet to be tested - but IMHO, it's too little, too late and may just be DOA).

  5. You can find the Pioneer 106S (slot loading drive) 16x DVD ROM/40x CD-ROM, as seen here: http://www.googlegear.com/ggweb/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=701107 or the 116 (tray IDE drive here): http://198.104.184.48/cgi-bin/webdata_pro.pl?_cgifunction=form&_layout=hardware&keyval...ntory.id%3D496

You can find the A04 DVD-R/W writer at many online vendors such as the following (or just do a quick pricewatch search):

    Good luck in your purchase!
