  1. Hi, I was wondering, what (free) program(s) can I use to extract subtitles from a MKV file? Thanks in advance for all of your help!

  2. Hi, Baldrick. I have MKVToolNix installed on my laptop, but I thought MKVExtract was Windows only?

  3. MKVtoolnix contain mkvextract. However mkvextract (by default) does not have graphical user interface (additional/external GUI's for mkvextract: MKVExtarctGUI-2, MKVCleaver and a few other) - mkvextract can be used from command line.

    Hmm... try iMkvExtract.

You don't need the graphical user interface. Text subtitles are almost always ID=2, so the command line is:

    mkvextract tracks "some movie.mkv" 2:subs.srt

If not, try 1 or 3 (0 is the video part usually, 1 audio).
