If this "image file' is a cd/dvd image based question ... there's no need to burn to disc ... mount it using a virtual drive program.

However it depends on the extension as not all virtual drive programs support every available extension.

    Try Virtual CloneDrive

Extract the content with isobuster, 7zip, etc or mount it as a virtual drive with virtual clonedrive.

what i am actually trying to do is i have some old blu-ray movies i made an image file of them on a portable hard drive when discs were expensive but now i need to transfer them to my computer and convert them to a readable file i have tried to burn them to a bd rw disc but they fail to burn the whole movie so i need some thing to convert them to readable files so i can shrink them with bd rebuilder to fit on to a 25g disc as bd rebuiler does not recognise blu ray image files

Still same answer, either mount or extract the content. Then just choose the mounted drive or the extracted content in bdrebuilder. Shrink.
