  1. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm trying to convert VCD .dat files (made from a Terapin recorder) to MPG, using VCD Gear 2.0. Followed the instructions from the pages on this site, downloaded the program (more than one version, actually. Same result with all of them). The program "pre-scans" the file, and asks for a destination file, and then does nothing. Tells me it can't read the video stream.

If it matters, I'm using finalized discs VCDs to convert from, recorded on data CDRs. Would it make a difference if I used Consumer (Audio) CDRs? I'm completely lost.

  2. I believe that this is related to one of the problems you list in your other post. There's a file you need which has probably been renamed. You need:
    C:\Windows\System\Iosubsys\Scsi1hlp.vxd

It has probably been left in the same place but renamed to Scsi1hlp.vxx, or something similar. I don't know what software is doing this, but it's making trouble for a lot of us. Just rename the file back to Scsi1hlp.vxd if it's there. That worked for me.
    Good luck with it.

    see ya,

  3. Well, I'll be damned! Thanks, Bullseye. I was so ready for this to NOT be that simple that I launched VCD Gear right after changing the file extension, and sighed and nodded when nothing happened. Then, I remembered to restart my system.

Bingo. I've only tried it on one file so far, but your fix works like a charm. Now, to start learning how to edit these files and author new VCDs. Thanks again.
