Panasonic had been promising a streaming Netflix as part of the Vieracast features beginning with their 2009 model TVs, which debuted towards the end of '08. It was always "Coming Soon", to the consternation of many purchasers like myself. Their most recent promise was to have it by summer, 2010. What little they had actually delivered in Vieracast remained very underwhelming. But yesterday it arrived via a firmware update (which failed for me the first time -- a server overload, apparently -- and had to be repeated) so they have now finally delivered on that promise. It's here, and it is working. Summer 2010 ? Yeah, just barely.

Of course, most folks interested in streaming services have had a much better roster of them available (in the U.S.) for quite awhile now, by other means: internet-enabled Blu-Ray players, add-on kits for your cable or sat STB, and probably from the XBOX or PS3 as well. Netflix and YouTube are apt to be the most desired streaming services, but there are several other options. Vudu, anyone ?

Still, I'm glad that this major selling point for Panasonic TVs did not remain vaporware forever.
Better late than never, I guess.
