    can anyone tell me what causes this in vlc media player, when I try to play movies it stops and starts and in bottom right hand corner it says buff 0% then goes to 100% then plays again so annoying

    Try reinstalling it.

    Also do the same symptoms occur when playing the same file in media player classic home cinema?
    Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

    I think there must be something slowing up my PC as tried media player classic home cinema? and still plays in steps etc. I don’t have anything else running on PC. but maybe I have a virus what's slowing movies down

    What file format s are you trying to play?
    What is your display card?

    What is inside the avi movie? Use gspot or avicodec to identify the codec that was used.
