  1. I'm looking to capture some old SVHS tapes using uncompressed avi or with a lossless codec/

When using the passthrough of the Panasonic DMR-ES10 , would the output be MPEG2 encoded? or would it be a passed through output with just the TBC applied etc.

The DMR-ES10 only has analog AV connections, so MPEG-2 isn't even remotely possible. It provides a filtered analog signal as a pass-through.

I think the question means (forgive me if I'm wrong): Is the digital video with timebase correction converted back to analogue before the MPEG2 compression stage or after? If it's after then the analogue signal at the ES10's output would have MPEG compression artifacts mixed in with it.

  4. The passthough signal has no MPEG compression artifacts, just time base correction (it may also adjust levels a bit too -- at least the ES15 does -- https://forum.videohelp.com/topic368189.html#1969469). If you record onto DVD and playback it will have MPEG artifacts, of course.
