  1. I am trying to encode a .vob file to .avi using the XviD Mencoder setting, and I get the following error message after I try to set the image crop using the Autocrop function:

FIXME:Hardenabling SSE and SSE2 without detection
    libdvdread: Couldn't find device name.
    Using SSE optimized IMDCT transform
    Using MMX optimized resampler
The selected video_out device is incompatible with this codec.
Try adding the scale filter, e.g. -vf spp, scale instead of -vf spp.

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: uninit_vo

    - MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
    disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
    - MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

Also, it grayed out the "SSE" option from the Options tab so it is unselectable.

I couldn't find the documentation they suggested above anywhere online, and I am not sure how to proceed. Can anyone give me a clue as to how to fix these issues? I have uninstalled and reinstalled ffmpegx (and the codecs) 3 times now and it happens every time (even with a restart of my system and a cleaning of my cache files).

Any help would be much appreciated.

When you activate Autocrop, mplayer should be activated to show you how the crop will be done, using a box outline over the movie image. It will start at the Preview time set in ffmpegX (lower right), to avoid "all black" screens at the very beginning of some movies, which may confuse the Autocrop.
If you are satisfied with the crop settiings, you may close mplayer using the 'Q' or 'Esc' key. If you close the mplayer window by clicking the red button (upper left side of window), then mplayer will crash, so don't do that.

The motion estimation (ME) function has no options (SAD, SSE, SATD, RD) for "mencoder XviD" in this version, so that option is grayed out.

    Could that be it?
