By testing, I have copied a AVCHD disc with a regular PC DVD burner. However, it is not playable in a SD DVD player. Is it possible to play the AVCHD disc with the regular PC DVD drive and software?

You won't be able to play an "AVCHC" file structure in any DVD player, only some (most current) Blu-Ray players.

You can play the m2ts files (in BDMV/STREAM folder) with MPCHC and probably some other PC players.

If you have Windows XP or Vista you may have to install UDF 2.5 drivers to be able to read the disc
