  1. Hi!

I am going crazy on trying to make a VCD out of an ASF file (I don't know why there is such a stupid and low quality format anyway, video over the web is just a dream for wideband owners anyway, IMHO).

Anyway, I got this asf video and I need the mpg. If I use tmpgenc 12h, it freezes on encoding. So I tried 12a.

It starts encoding okay but I stopped after some seconds to see how it was going, and I saw that the audio was chopping and was horrible. So, following advice from this forum, I first tried to use virtualdub to convert to avi.

The problem is that the asf file can't be opened in VD. It says: "ASF: illegal object fragment flags b9 in packet at 93de4b packet size = 1d4c, pp = 11, send time: 3:22:45:38".

Following advices in this forum, I tried to use graphedit, asfcut, but nothing helps.

What makes me sad is that the file is played well in media player. I mean, at 2min9sec, it stops abruptly, but if I move it to past that point, it plays until the end (22 min).

    CAN ANYBODY HELP ME?!? PLEASE!

  2. Use VirtualDub 1.3 (any version above this will not support asf). You can find it by searching on http://www.google.com. After you get 1.3, search for VirtualDub plug-ins. There is an asf fixer plugin that will fix an asf file if it doesn't load correctly in VirtualDub. I have used this many times and never had a problem.

  3. By the way, check out my posting. It may have some useful information for you. Read all the listings. I post my progressions on the way. I have a feeling you are trying to do something similar to what I was trying to accomplish.

  5. It can get pretty frustrating. I've got the plugin at home. I should have the source URL there also. Check back tonight and I'll post it if I find it. The way I found it was through google.

  6. I've been following this thread as I've had the exact same problem as you, zeteste.

Managed to fix the asf with AsfTools which I downloaded from here:

    http://www.geocities.com/myasftools/

My problem now is, after VirtualDub 1.3c tries to open the asf, I get the following error message:

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'WMV1' (unknown)."

Am I missing some sort of plugin/codec? Sorry if I'm sounding like a newbie, but its because I am!!

    Thanks in advance
