  1. Hello

My sister has a sony vaio with firewire port and she uses it to capture videos from our canon mini-dv camcorder.
Now she wants to buy a new laptop but the new one don't have firewire port. it means she wont be able to capture videos from the camcorder anymore? or theres any wordaround thing? in one shop the seller said i could use a firewire to usb cable and still capture like before but on other store they said it don't exist and it's stupid.

    Anyone can help?

    Thanks

the second shop is right, the usb to firewire cable won't work. she should keep looking for a new laptop with firewire. they are available.

You need a Firewire port. The USB adapters don't work.

There are many laptops with Firewire ports out there. One I like is the Dell Studio $479 up. They also have an ExpressCard slot and eSATA for external drives.
